The Chapter Connection – September 2026 Summary
The Sacramento ASSP Chapter had another successful month of education, engagement, and chapter achievements. Members attended a presentation by Rachel Conn on Cal/OSHA enforcement trends and common violations, gaining practical insights to strengthen workplace compliance programs.
We are also proud to announce that Sacramento has been recognized as a Platinum Chapter for the fourth consecutive year, reflecting our ongoing commitment to member value and chapter excellence.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Tour on September 23 and the Sacramento Safety & Health Summit on October 6. Don’t forget to join us for our first Safety Summit Mixer on October 5 for networking with fellow safety professionals and event speakers.
Additional opportunities this month include participation in our annual member survey, chapter leadership opportunities, Common Interest Groups (BSP, HSP, and WISE), and free ASSP educational programming focused on AI in EHS.
We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and continuing another outstanding year for Sacramento ASSP.
ASSP Sacramento Chapter Board Member of the Month: September 2026 – Daovina Nguyen, President-Elect

This month, we’re excited to introduce Daovina Nguyen, CSP, CHST, our ASSP Sacramento Chapter President-Elect!
Daovina has spent the last 10 years in the safety profession and has been an active member of the Sacramento ASSP Chapter for over 10 years, helping build connections and strengthen our local safety community along the way.
Currently, Daovina is embracing one of her most important roles, Mom, while staying connected to the safety profession through her ongoing involvement with ASSP Sacramento. Her experience in the safety field, leadership within the chapter, and continued commitment to our safety community demonstrate that professional passion and personal priorities can successfully go hand in hand.
What inspired her to pursue a career in safety? A simple but impactful philosophy: preventing injuries rather than treating them. That prevention-focused mindset has guided her throughout her career and continues to shape her approach to safety today.
When asked what she enjoys most about ASSP, her answer was immediate: COMMUNITY. For Daovina, every ASSP event feels like a family reunion, bringing together professionals who can learn from one another, share experiences, and grow together.
One accomplishment she’s particularly proud of? Reading an impressive 76 books in a single year! Her love of learning extends beyond the workplace and into her personal life.
Outside of safety, Daovina enjoys planning and traveling around the world and, of course, reading books whenever she gets the chance.
Fun fact: She once burned down her childhood playground. We think there is probably a story there that needs to be shared at a future chapter meeting!
Her best piece of safety advice is refreshingly straightforward:
“Just read it.”
Whether it’s a procedure, policy, instruction, or safety alert, taking the time to read and understand information can make all the difference.
And her favorite quote?
“All I know is that I know nothing.” – Socrates
A reminder to stay curious, keep learning, and never stop growing.
Thank you, Daovina, for your leadership, dedication, and commitment to making the Sacramento Chapter such a welcoming and supportive community for safety professionals!
ASSP Sacramento Chapter Board Member of the Month: August 2026 – Sixtus Aliriagwu, Chapter President

To help our chapter members learn more about our board, we are starting a monthly series that helps them get to know their leadership team. This month, we’re excited to introduce Sixtus Aliriagwu, GSP, M. Eng. our ASSP Sacramento Chapter President!
Sixtus serves as an EHS Manager with DPR Construction and has dedicated the last 10 years to the safety profession. For the past 7 years, he has been an active member of the Sacramento Chapter, helping support and advance our local safety community.
What inspired Sixtus to pursue a career in safety? Simple, but powerful: the opportunity to protect people, prevent injuries, and help ensure every worker returns home safely to their family.
One of the things he enjoys most about ASSP is the opportunity to build relationships, share knowledge, and connect with safety professionals who are passionate about growing and strengthening the profession. As Chapter President, he continues to demonstrate that commitment through his leadership and service.
Outside of work and volunteering, Sixtus enjoys traveling the world, experiencing new cultures, and making memories with his wife and three children. Fun fact: As a proud Nigerian, “Wakanda Forever” will always have a special place in his heart!
His best piece of safety advice: “If you see something unsafe, say something, and take appropriate action to help address it.”
And the motto he lives by? “It’s a beautiful day.” A simple reminder to approach each day with gratitude and optimism.
Thank you, Sixtus, for your leadership, dedication, and continued contributions to the ASSP Sacramento Chapter and the safety profession!
