Established in honor of Tom Kline’s legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to protecting workers, the award recognizes individuals who exemplify excellence in occupational safety and health while making meaningful contributions to the safety profession and the chapter community.

The Safety Coin serves as a symbol of commitment to advancing workplace safety, mentoring future professionals, and strengthening the occupational health and safety community. It honors those who consistently demonstrate the values that Tom embodied: leadership, professionalism, continuous learning, service to others, and a passion for improving the lives of workers.

Recipients may be recognized for achievements in one or more of four key areas:

  • Chapter Engagement & Volunteerism through active participation, committee service, event leadership, membership growth, and support of chapter initiatives.
  • Professional Development & Learning through educational achievement, professional certifications, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Mentorship & Educational Outreach through mentoring, teaching, presenting, publishing, and sharing knowledge with the next generation of safety professionals.
  • Innovation & Workplace Safety Leadership through measurable contributions that improve safety performance, reduce risk, and strengthen organizational safety culture.

The award is open to ASSP Sacramento Chapter members at all stages of their careers, including students, emerging professionals, seasoned practitioners, and industry leaders.
