Topic Behavior-Based Safety, Without Borders

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District, (SMUD) believes behavior-based safety and employee awareness for safe behaviors should no-longer be seen as just a workplace process. We’ll share some of the step’s we take to expand employee awareness into the at-home and at-play environments. You’ll hear about the creative styles of engagement SMUD uses to educate, and elevate behavior ownership through safety observations, and family-oriented events, that everyone positively benefits from.

Speaker Dwayne Chapel

Dwayne Chapel is the Safety Coordinator for SMUD, (Sacramento Municipal Utility District) who oversees the company’s behavior-based safety process. His 33 years of industry knowledge, combined with 21 years of leadership experience in both field and customer service work are now used to transition SMUD’s safety culture to a world class level. His creative approach for encouraging and educating employees on how the safety investments they make today, can lead to a healthy and active lifestyle for years to come. Dwayne’s ability to make meaningful connections and spark steps of creativity with audiences, has led to numerous guest speaker opportunities over the years.

ASSP members can park in either of the green areas. The entrance to the HQ building is located on the south side (indicated with a red arrow). As you enter there will be a security desk to check in. The room is located just across from security. Signs will be posted on the day of the meeting.
